Elephant in the Room
Derek’s previously ejected a wooden tomato toy from their house (see post here) and has now taken to ejecting their soft toy elephant!

Derek always enjoys a good scratch and, like any rat, likes to hide away in dark places! Here he is, firstly enjoying a scratch while sitting in my hands and, secondly, hiding in the hood of my top.

Happy 1st birthday to Ronnie and Derek!
While their exact date of birth is unknown, I decided 12th December would be their ‘official’ birthday for reasons I explained here.
They’ll be getting some food based treats later which I’ll be filming and posting tomorrow.

Ahead of tomorrow’s UK General Election, where rats would most likely vote for the Biscuit DemocRats who would offer free digestive biscuits for all rats, here’s some political ratty silliness.

Ronnie and Derek love eating sweetcorn and I gave them some to eat from a cob. They enjoyed it a lot, as shown in the video below, but shortly afterwards the ‘sweet turned to sour’ as they started wrestling over the cob!
I now cut the corn off and place it in their mini-buckets for them to avoid any wrangling.
Listen out for the loud noise they make when eating the sweetcorn!

See the photos below for more evidence of Ronnie and Derek being posers!

Just a quick message from me to admit that when I was allowed out on top of the cage earlier, I saw a shadow move on the wall and I jumped backwards. I thought it was an intruder or, even worse, a politician canvassing for a vote. It was just a shadow though. I feel better now just for admitting it.
Ronnie

Watch below a video of Ronnie and Derek enjoying tucking into the remains of a cooked piece of chicken. They weren’t allowed to eat the whole thing – just a small bit!

As well as eating and exploring, one of the other main hobbies of pet rats is sleeping and resting – and doing lots of it, as demonstrated below by Ronnie and Derek!
